In-Office Zoom Teeth Whitening
We are regularly asked “Does whitening your teeth really work?” or “Should I whiten my teeth” or (the one I like the most) “Doc, how do I get my teeth as white yours’?” It’s all a variation of the same inquiry.
Here’s the “scoop” on teeth whitening: If you want a whiter than normal smile, there are a few basic things that you must do – and it takes a certain degree of continued maintenance. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying (or wearing very white dentures).
The basics include:
1.) Regular cleaning at a dental office and make sure the hygienists uses a “prophyjet” to get the deep stains. This equipment is costly to the office, so some offices don’t have it. But it is effective, and both of our hygienists have one. ASK FOR IT BY NAME.
2.) Brush at least 2 – 3 times a day with a whitening toothpaste. For many people, especially those younger than 35 years old, you will probably notice a brighter smile with time. A whitening toothpaste is necessary to fight CONTINUED daily stain.
3.) Over-the-counter whitening products, such as Crest Strips, are an inexpensive way to get quicker results. NOTE: Sometimes they do not work well because of the degree of stain, the age of the patient, the amount that the patient smokes or drinks coffee, etc.
Dr. Healy is quickly able to suggest the best method for his patient to whiten their teeth. In many cases, it includes the above-described regimen.
